 DigiCore Electronics - 2008 Report

DigiCore Electronics increased production volumes by 76% in the review period compared with the previous year.

This was driven in South Africa by the SAPS contract and a 71% increase in shipments of the Ctrack Secure stolen vehicle recovery product. Overseas, the increase was driven by the contract to supply Royal Mail as well as a 35% increase in general exports. Successive total production records were set for five months of the year.

Given that these increases, often at relatively short notice, were achieved with minimal disruption or additional capital expenditure, the effectiveness of DigiCore Electronics’ planning systems and policy of outsourcing PCB population has been amply demonstrated.

During the year our outsourcing partner, Production Logix, invested heavily in automated production lines that run at over twice the speed of previous lines. These improvements enabled DigiCore to increase production quickly and easily. An X-ray inspection system was also added which further improves both parties’ quality assurance processes.

DigiCore Electronics began production of a wide range of new products during the review period. Some are specialised accessories for customers such as multinational mining groups to monitor the use of handbrakes and seatbelts. Others increase our product range, improve existing products or allow us to take advantage of new lower-cost technologies. As an example, the new version of our Ctrack InsureTM product now uses ball grid arrays which reduce the size of the unit, an important consideration in a security-related product.

Quality remains our highest priority. All units produced are subjected to a series of stringent tests, including a soak test and a vibration test. These tests ensure that even if our equipment is used in extremely harsh environments, such as mines, it will operate perfectly. The ISO 9001:2000 standard is applied throughout the company to ensure that our quality is consistently of the highest standard.

With appropriate human and technical resources in place, DigiCore Electronics is confident of its ability to supply the products required by the group for global markets, timeously, at competitive prices and to all required quality and environmental standards.
